This is a combination medication that contains 2 active ingredients: sitagliptin and metformin. They are used together, along with diet and exercise, to improve blood glucose (sugar) levels for adults with type 2 diabetes.

Sitagliptin belongs to the group of medications called DPP-4 inhibitors. It works by increasing the amount of incretin released by the intestine. Incretin is a hormone that raises insulin levels when blood glucose is high and decreases the amount of glucose made by the body. Metformin belongs to the group of medications called biguanides. It works by reducing the amount of glucose made by the liver and by making it easier for glucose to enter into the tissues of the body.
