Petina Compound uses

Petina Compound consists of Cyproheptadine Hydrochloride, Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B12, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3 (Nicotinamide), Vitamin B6, Vitamin D.

Cyproheptadine Hydrochloride:

A serotonin antagonist and a histamine H1 blocker used as antipruritic, appetite stimulant, antiallergic, and for the post-gastrectomy dumping syndrome, etc.

Indication: For treatment of perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis due to inhalant allergens and foods, mild uncomplicated allergic skin manifestations of urticaria and angioedema, amelioration of allergic reactions to blood or plasma, cold urticaria, dermatographism, and as therapy for anaphylactic reactions adjunctive to epinephrine.

Petina Compound (Cyproheptadine Hydrochloride) is a piperidine antihistamine. Unlike other antihistamines, this drug also antagonizes serotonin receptors. This action makes Petina Compound (Cyproheptadine Hydrochloride) useful in conditions such as vascular headache and anorexia. Petina Compound (Cyproheptadine Hydrochloride) does not prevent the release of histamine but rather competes with free histamine for binding at HA-receptor sites. Petina Compound (Cyproheptadine Hydrochloride) competitively antagonizes the effects of histamine on HA-receptors in the GI tract, uterus, large blood vessels, and bronchial smooth muscle. Most antihistamines possess significant anticholinergic properties, but Petina Compound (Cyproheptadine Hydrochloride) exerts only weak anticholinergic actions. Blockade of central muscarinic receptors appears to account for Cyproheptadine's antiemetic effects, although the exact mechanism is unknown. Petina Compound (Cyproheptadine Hydrochloride) also competes with serotonin at receptor sites in smooth muscle in the intestines and other locations. Antagonism of serotonin on the appetite center of the hypothalamus may account for Cyproheptadine's ability to stimulate appetite. Petina Compound (Cyproheptadine Hydrochloride) also has been used to counter vascular headaches, which many believe are caused by changes in serotonin activity, however it is unclear how Petina Compound (Cyproheptadine Hydrochloride) exerts a beneficial effect on this condition.

CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY

Significant decrease in the incidence of dental caries can be linked to the fluoridation of the water supply (1ppm fluoride) during the period of tooth development.

Petina Compound (Vitamin A) Tablets provide sodium fluoride and ten essential vitamins in a chewable tablet. Because the tablets are chewable, they provide a topical as well as systemic source of fluoride. Hydroxyapatite is the principal crystal for all calcified tissue in the human body. The fluoride ion reacts with the Hydroxyapatite in the tooth as it is formed to produce the more caries-resistant crystal, fluorapatite.

The reaction may be expressed by the equation:

Ca10(PO4)6(OH2) + 2F- Ca10 (PO4)6F2 + 2OH-
(Hydroxyapatite) (Fluorapatite)

Three stages of fluoride deposition in tooth enamel can be distinguished:

  • Small amounts (reflecting the low levels of fluoride in tissue fluids) are incorporated into the enamel crystals while they are being formed.
  • After enamel has been laid down, fluoride deposition continues in the surface enamel. Diffusion of fluoride from the surface inward is apparently restricted.
  • After eruption, the surface enamel acquires fluoride from the water, food, supplementary fluoride and smaller amounts of saliva.
