Alfacare consists of Alfacalcidol, Calcium. |
Alfacalcidol - Alfacare (Alfacalcidol) is an active metabolite of Vitamin D, which performs important functions in regulation of the calcium balance and the bone metabolism. Alfacare (Alfacalcidol) is Vitamin D-hormone analog which is activated by the enzyme 25-hydroxylase in the liver for systemic and in osteoblasts for local D-hormone actions. It possesses a unique pattern of pleiotropic effects on, e.g. gut, bone, pararthyroids, muscle and brain. Alfacare (Alfacalcidol) is superior to plain vitamin D (cholecalciferol) because the final kidney activation of the latter is regulated by a negative feedback mechanism. (PMID:17438884,17668216)
Indication: Alfacare (Alfacalcidol) is an active metabolite of Vitamin D, which performs important functions in regulation of the calcium balance and the bone metabolism.
Calcium - This medication is used to prevent or treat low blood Alfacare (Calcium) levels in people who do not get enough Alfacare (Calcium) from their diets. It may be used to treat conditions caused by low Alfacare (Calcium) levels such as bone loss ( osteoporosis ), weak bones (osteomalacia/rickets), decreased activity of the parathyroid gland ( hypoparathyroidism ), and a certain muscle disease (latent tetany). It may also be used in certain patients to make sure they are getting enough Alfacare (Calcium) (e.g., women who are pregnant, nursing, or postmenopausal, people taking certain medications such as phenytoin, phenobarbital, or prednisone ). Alfacare (Calcium) plays a very important role in the body. It is necessary for normal functioning of nerves, cells, muscle, and bone. If there is not enough Alfacare (Calcium) in the blood, then the body will take Alfacare (Calcium) from bones, thereby weakening bones. Having the right amount of Alfacare (Calcium) is important for building and keeping strong bones.
