Guaifenesin:

An expectorant that also has some muscle relaxing action. It is used in many cough preparations.

Indication: Used to assist the expectoration of phlegm from the airways in acute respiratory tract infections.

Polaramine Expectorant (Guaifenesin) is an expectorant which increases the output of phlegm (sputum) and bronchial secretions by reducing adhesiveness and surface tension. The increased flow of less viscous secretions promotes ciliary action and changes a dry, unproductive cough to one that is more productive and less frequent. By reducing the viscosity and adhesiveness of secretions, Polaramine Expectorant (Guaifenesin) increases the efficacy of the mucociliary mechanism in removing accumulated secretions from the upper and lower airway.

Pseudoephedrine Sulfate:

Active ingredients (in each caplet)...Purpose

Guaifenesin 400 mg...Expectorant

Polaramine Expectorant (Pseudoephedrine Sulfate) hydrochloride 60 mg...Nasal decongestant

Uses

For temporarily relief of nasal congestion due to a cold, hay fever, or other upper respiratory allergies (allergic rhinitis), and to help loosen phlegm (mucus) and thin bronchial secretions to rid the bronchial passageways of bothersome mucus and make coughs more productive.

  • temporarily relieves nasal congestion due to a cold, hay fever, or other upper respiratory allergies (allergic rhinitis).

Do not take this product for persistent or chronic cough such as occurs with smoking, asthma, chronic bronchitis, or emphysema, or where cough is accompanied by excessive phlegm (mucus) unless directed by a doctor.
